George J. Kaptain, M.D.

George J. Kaptain, M.D. is a board certified neurological surgeon who joined North Jersey Brain and Spine Center in 2003. He received both his medical degree and his neurosurgical training at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.  His sub-specialty interests include skull base and neuroendocrine surgery as well as complex spinal surgery.  He completed fellowship training in skull-base surgery at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon as well as an orthopedic spine fellowship in Charlottesville, Virginia.  He was the chief of skull-base surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California from 2001-2003 and is currently the chief of skull-base surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Dr. Kaptain's experience broadens the range of services offered in Northern New Jersey.  He has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals that reflect his interest in pituitary and skull-base tumors and spinal disorders.  Additionally, Dr. Kaptain has served as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Neurosurgery and has been the recipient of teaching awards from the University of Virginia. He continues to participate in the education of neurosurgery residents from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.  He has presented his work at national meetings and maintains a dedication to patient care, and the education of medical residents.

He is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and maintains membership in the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, North American Spine Society, American Medical Association, New Jersey Spine Society, New Jersey Neurosurgical Society, American Spine Society, and the Bergen County Medical Society. He has been named as a “Top Surgeon” by Consumers’ Research Council of America.
