Roy D. Vingan, M.D.

RVinganDr.Vingan is Board Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and is a Founding member of the North Jersey Brain and Spine Group (formerly Comprehensive Neurosurgical, P.C.). He has been in practice since May 1992, in Bergen County, NJ.

After undergraduate matriculation at The State University of New York at Albany, where he graduated Summa cum Laude, Dr. Vingan’s medical education was completed at The State University of New York in Brooklyn, in 1985. He distinguished himself by graduating with a Distinction in Research, working in the field of Cerebral Metabolism. He continued his Neurosurgical training at SUNY Health Sciences Center-Downstate and Kings County Hospital, and completed residency in April of 1992. During his residency, he did extensive research in the field of fetal tissue transplantation for nervous system regeneration.

He subsequently entered practice in Bergen County, where he distinguished himself as a leader in the Neurosurgical community, and was inducted in 1998 as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He has been President of the Medical staff at Hackensack University medical center, as well as the Chief of Neurosurgery at Holy Name Hospital ( in Teaneck New Jersey). He is currently on staff at The Valley Hospital (in Ridgewood, NJ) and Englewood Hospital Medical Center. He is co-director of the Neurosciences Center Development committee at The Valley Hospital. He also performs many of the more minimally invasive procedures at the Hudson Crossing Surgical center in Fort Lee (a state of the art ambulatory care center).

His academic affiliations have included Assistant Clinical Instructor at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, and since 1995 as Assistant Clinical Professor at UMDNJ/Newark. He has been site director at HUMC, site director for the residency program and continues to actively teach residents.

Dr.Vingan’s major specialty interests include minimally invasive spinal surgery, neurotrauma and vascular neurosurgery. He is a leading Neurosurgeon in the application of minimally invasive techniques for cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal pathology. He has introduced many new technologies into the area. He was the first, or among the first, regional surgeons to perform spinal fusion cages, percutaneous pedicle screws, frameless cranial and spinal navigation (Stealth and Stryker systems) endoscopic cranial and spinal techniques, and more recently, the Minimal access surgical approaches of XLIF and AXIALIF, for lumbar spinal reconstruction. He has acted as an active educator of his colleague as to the subtleties of these surgical techniques.

He acts as Chief of Neurosurgical Trauma and Critical Care at Hackensack University Medical Center and works closely with trauma surgeons in the area to minimize the devastating sequelae of closed head injury. He has been a program coordinator in the THINK FIRST head and Spinal Cord Injury prevention program in Bergen County with outreach to the high school community.
