Stereotactic Cingulotomy
The cingulum is a region of the brain associated with the "limbic" system; this circuitry regulates the perception of emotion and its relationship with pain. Cingulotomies have been performed for treatment of refractory depression and for severe pain that is unresponsive to other modes of treatment.
